Our Combat Core Class:
MEDICINE BALL WORKOUT BODYWEIGHT EXERCISES
A boot camp-style class mixing traditional body weight exercises and personal training tools with martial arts techniques to deliver a full body workout.
HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING
The Chung’s Martial Arts Combat Core class offers participants a 45-minute workout (plus a 15-minute warm-up and stretch) at a blistering pace using one of the oldest tools in all of fitness training; the medicine ball. And interspersed with the medicine ball maneuvers, we employ a series of bodyweight exercises to keep you on the move and continually challenge different muscle groups (i.e. upper body, lower body, core). So, while one muscle group “rests”, another group is hard at work.
VERSITILE TRAINING TO AVOID BOREDOM
With usage being tracked as far back as 3000 years ago, the round weighted balls – called “medicine balls” due to the face they are synonymous with health – are one of the most versatile tools for both strength building and injury prevention.
EXERCISE WITH LITTLE OR NO EQUIPMENT
Available in a variety of weights and sizes, it is a tool anyone can utilize, and the difficulty of exercises are easily boosted by increasing the weight of the ball used. Plus, the majority of the exercises can be performed with a partner or on your own.
CHALLENGING YOUR MUSCLE MEMORY
The Combat Core workout at Chung’s Martial Arts rotates exercises every 3 weeks to ensure you don’t get too comfortable with an exercise and peak too soon. Of course, you’ll see the same “core” movements week to week – some exercises are just irreplaceable – but variations on those basic movements will ensure you are always challenged. For instance, you will always do push-ups. But some weeks you will do wide grip push-ups, some weeks triangle/diamond push-ups or maybe it will be dive bombers, robots or ‘round the world.
VIDEO CLIPS OF EXERCISES DONE IN CLASS
And if you don’t recognize the names, there are video clips coming of every exercise we do. So if you don’t know the difference between a scorpion sit-up, a superman toss or an elevated woodchopper, soon you’ll be able to click and learn.
MORNING AND EVENING CLASSES
And if you’re the type to get a workout in before work, join us at 7:30am. If you want an afterwork release of the tensions of the day, drop by at 6:20pm. Be sure to check the schedule or call the school and get ready to sweat!
